This is a screen shot with the fading as well.
I think I have decided to go with the white background. I also created more different interactive colours to the application. The above three images are screen shots with out the fade to show the different colours. The three different colours produced on the bottom left corner and top right corner are produced when you click the left or right mouse.
I think that the black background helps the colours pop out, but I don't like how the fading makes a white looking mark in the background.
